Headquartered in the foothills of Sakata, Yamagata prefecture, Japan, our team of 360 craftsmen work with research and development personnel to integrate the best of artisan skills, modern technology, and high-quality materials, sharing the common goal of producing the world’s finest golf clubs. Each finished HONMA golf club requires one hundred people’s hands and six months to build, undergoing stringent inspection at every turn; whether by a supersonic wave or a seasoned artisan, then refined by the master craftsman until it is deemed flawless.
production process
Woods and Drivers Production Process
Production of a master wood model
A wooden master model for a HONMA golf club is produced by the designer.
Production of a master model
A bronze master model for the creation of a titanium head is created.
X-ray inspection
Each titanium head undergoes stringent inspections for any flaws prior to polishing.
Polishing
The heads are further refined by artisans for precision and aesthetics.
Wood coating
Each head is then coated and carefully finished to perfection by the skilled artisan.
Assembling
The shaft is inserted into the head, then joined using a type of epoxy adhesive. This process is carefully done by the artisan who checks the assembly with a discerning eye.
Balance check
Finally, the head is checked to determine if it complies with strict balance benchmarks using a precision balance meter to ensure there’s no compromise on quality.
Irons Production Process
Design
Clubs are conceptualized and designed using data feedback from extensive scientific testing.
Metal molds
A metal mold is produced by a master artisan through his senses and sensibilities. Finally, the head is checked to determine if it complies with strict balance benchmarks using a precision balance meter so as to ensure there’s no compromise on quality.
Iron head abrasion
The iron head is then refined by a seasoned artisan until ideal. *Only applied for pro/special orders.
Plating
Plating is carefully and artfully applied to each iron head in our factories.
Polishing with routers
All parts of the iron head are polished to perfection - the HONMA standard.
Inserting the grip
The grip is inserted with precision by machine, then stringently checked by hand.
Joining components
Components are then aligned and joined using original proprietary machinery.
Ferrule abrasion
A ferrule is applied by an artisan to join the head and the shaft.
checking lie and loft angles
The lie and loft angles of the iron club undergo rigorous checks.
Shafts Production Process
Cutting
The best materials are selected and precisely cut for each part of the shaft.
Winding
Carbon fabric is manually wound around an iron core by a master artisan.
Thermal treatment
The resin undergoes carefully regulated thermal treatment based in extensive research and proprietary knowledge.
Shafts abrasion
The shaft is first ground by a machine, then refined laboriously by an artisan.
Shafts coating
The shaft is finally coated thinly and beautifully by the expert hand. Carbon fabric is manually wound around an iron core by a master artisan.
